Treeline
Lodge |
Activities:
Nature, Photography, Hiking, Fishing, |
| Treeline
Lodge is located about 250 km northeast
of Yellowknife, about a 1.3 hr. flight
by Beaver floatplane, or 1 hr. in a
Twin Otter. It is in the Northwest Territories,
the Central Barrenlands, in the transition
zone between taiga and tundra.Several
large esker systems offer easy hiking,
elevated above the surrounding tundra
and lakes, excellent for viewing of
nesting loons, ducks, and passing wildlife.
These esker systems are used as highways
by wildlife. Sit hidden on the edge
of an esker and you may be rewarded
by the sight of a fox, caribou, or even
a wolf. The open tundra is enticing
for hiking and birding, and there are
10 miles of roads and unlimited hiking.
We have canoes available for paddling
on Matthews Lake, and aluminum boats
for exploring the lake and fishing.
Matthews Lake is home to lake trout,
northern pike, and whitefish. There
are several creeks providing opportunities
to fish for arctic grayling. Fly fishing
is possible and usually successful.
Guest quarters are buildings with central
heating and nice twin-bedded rooms along
a central corridor. Each room is supplied
with bedding and a coffee pot. Meals
at Treeline are substantial and delicious.
Our cooks are experienced and adept
at ensuring your meals are a special
part of your memories of Treeline. Special
diets are available upon request. We
have conference facilities for meetings
of up to 30 people.
We have several outpost camps that are
available for rent. These are "do-it-yourself"
camps; we provide tentframes or cabin
facilities, and you do the work. Fishing
is superb at Lac du Rocher. Due to their
diet of small freshwater crustaceans,
the local lake trout are fat and their
flesh is quite orange. At our Burnside
River Lodge the fishing ranks among
the best in the NWT, for lake trout,
arctic grayling, and landlocked arctic
char. We can set up trips that involve
first and last night stays at Treeline,
then an interlude of camping at Lac
du Rocher. Fly-out
day trips to Lac du Rocher can also
be arranged from Treeline Lodge. |
