Bays
and Dunes - Nature
reigns supreme throughout the "Bays and Dunes" region of Kings County. The
diverse landscape and abundance of native animals and vegetation make the
region a necessary stop for all lovers of the outdoors. For those wishing to totally immerse themselves in the natural surroundings,
the Confederation Trail offers cyclists and hikers an ideal way to view
the regions interior.
A scenic driving tour which explores the numerous picturesque bays and spectacular
sand dunes found along the coastline is popular. As well, a five-kilometre
stretch of the Confederation Trail runs through the town, offering a perfect
opportunity for many a travel-weary visitor to stretch their legs. A ferry
from the town provides the only transportation link to Les Iles-de-la-Madelaine.
In Mount Stewart
nature buffs can enjoy viewing an array of wildlife, including bald eagles,
osprey, mink and red fox which inhabit the plentiful salt marshes. Anglers
can fish for salmon, trout and striped bass in the nearby waters. In all,
Kings County offers a wide array of enjoyment for all visitors.
Hills
and Harbours - A
region dominated by a variety of landscapes from the rugged coastal cliffs
and beaches to the rolling farmlands and copious forests. The pastoral scenery,
dotted with numerous sleepy villages and cozy farmhouses exudes the timeless
rural charm that can be found province-wide.
The local hospitality, an intrinsic quality of Southern Kings residents,
is put on full display during the summer months when guests can delight
in numerous celidhs and other Celtic festivals that can be found in the
region.
A region removed from the amusement parks and crowds found elsewhere on
P.E.I. remains closely tied to the peaceful lifestyle of days gone by.
Coupled with the charming
qualities of the regions inhabitants, Southern Kings offers peace and solitude
amidst a stunning natural landscape which makes it an ideal locale for people
of all ages.
