Anne's Land
and Charlotte's Shore Regions |
Anne's
Land - Every
year thousands of visitors to P.E.I. flock to "Anne's Land", seeking the
rural splendor and charismatic charm that motivated renowned Island author
Lucy Maud Montgomery to write "Anne of Green Gables". A beloved fictional
heroine, Anne delighted in the rolling farmlands and beautiful ocean panoramas.
The many natural treasures of the region have been preserved by Fishing
Dock the Prince Edward Island National Park. Highlighted by pristine sandy
beaches, freshwater ponds and saltwater marshes, not to mention copious
woodlands, the park also protects many historic and cultural landmarks,
including the world famous house of Green Gables.
Among the most sought-after attractions of "Anne's Land" are the seemingly
endless breath-taking dunes and white sand beaches, divided by the occasional
stretch of rocky sandstone cliffs.
Charlotte's
Shore - The
gateway to the Garden of the Gulf, the 13-kilometre Confederation Bridge
offers visitors a dramatic view of the gently rolling farmland and pristine
red sand beaches that characterize the "Charlotte's Shore" region of P.E.I.
Charlotte's Shore
presents to travelers the idyllic, gentle beauty of the surrounding landscape
bordered by the warm waters of the Northumberland Strait.
Victoria By The Sea, a quaint, cozy little village 20 minutes east of Borden,
overflows with a variety of gift shops which offer everything from pottery
and paintings to delectable hand-dipped chocolates.
The restored buildings of Charlottetown give the downtown interior a look
that reminds one of a busy 19th century seaport. The majestic St. Dunstan's
Basilica adorned by three copper spires is visible virtually anywhere in
the city. While visiting Province House guests can explore the great halls
where the Fathers of Confederation met in 1864 to plan the future of our
now great nation.
